Basketmaking: Small Market Basket

Baskets were essential in the colonial period for gathering, marketing, and everyday household tasks; an indispensable tool in both town and farm life. Led by instructor, Karen Wychock, participants in this hands-on workshop will create a small market basket using traditional techniques. Working over a wooden mold, each basket will be woven from natural reed and finished with sturdy oak handles and pre-bent reed rims.
All materials are provided. Attendees are asked to bring an apron or towel, as the reed will be worked wet. The workshop runs from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM and includes a 30-minute lunch break; participants should plan to bring their own lunch.
